Consider a centerpiece

 A large lighting fixture, such as a chandelier, can create a focal point in a living room or other open area. It doesn’t have to be anything elegant—something artistic or uniquely designed will have the same effect. However, consider adding a dimmer switch to it so you can add or reduce light as needed.

Add color

Slipping in a pop of color can add a bit of excitement to a dull room. Consider a brightly colored lamp for bedrooms and living rooms.

Get a pair

If you prefer smaller fixtures, consider getting two to complement each other. Two fixtures next to each other can have more of a dramatic effect than one single light. This works especially well for pendant lights. Plus, lighting in pairs can add balance to a room.

Consider a large lamp

If you prefer a floor fixture over one on the ceiling, then consider a flowing lamp. A large, curving lamp can provide your area with a significant amount of light, so you don’t feel like you’re always in the dark.

Go big

If you have vaulted ceilings, you’ll want large, oversized fixtures. If you go too small, you won’t get the amount of light you need.

Add a unique touch

Feel free to add some fun lighting options to your home. If you like neon signs or lights encased in cutesy designs, find a way to include them in your home. After all, picking out lighting fixtures should be a fun project.
